American composer Gloria Sklerov

Ее песни пели по обе стороны Атлантики. В США — Карпентерс исполняли ее «I just fall in love again», Шер — «He’ll Never Know» , Фрэнк Синатра — «I Believe I’m Gonna Love You». Her songs were performed on both sides of the Atlantics. In USA The Carpenters sang «I Just Fall In Love Again», Cher — «He’ll Never Know», Frank Sinatra — «I Believe I’m Gonna Love You». On the other side of the Atlantics, in Europe: Claude Francois sang «Quand je chanterai une chanson d’amour, Nana Mouskouri — «Mon amour, mon enfant», Lucifer and Margriet Eshuijs – «House For Sale».

И все же Поль Мориа со своим оркестром оказался первым всемирно знаменитым артистом на творческом пути композитора Глории Склеров из Лос-Анжелеса. Тогда, в 1970 Поль Мориа уже третий год купался в лучах славы международного артиста, но при этом всегда был нацелен на напряженную работу над новыми успешными записями. Как результат он выпустил американский альбом «The soul of Paul Mauriat» (1968) с популярными мелодиями в стиле ритм-энд-блюз, а также несколько специальных записей для американского рынка. Для другого диска было решено добавить несколько эксклюзивных трэков местных композиторов. Композитор Пол Лека из города Бриджпорт, американский продюсер Поля Мориа, дал ему 2 свои оригинальные песни для нового диска и помог найти еще 3 прекрасные мелодии для альбома, две из которых были романтическими и талантливыми пьесами Глории Склеров — «Любовь ушла» и «Снова дома». Она очень гордится каждой из работ и с радостью рассказала историю их появления на пластинке Поля Мориа.

And yet, Paul Mauriat with his orchestra was the first world famous artist on the creative path of the composer Gloria Sklerov from Los Angeles. At that time Paul Mauriat for the third year had basked in the glory of international fame, however he has always been focused on hard work for new successful recordings. As a result, he released an album in America, «The soul of Paul Mauriat» (1968) that included pop music in rhythm & blues style, also few special recordings for the USA market. For other album it was decided to add exclusive tracks of the local composers. Composer Paul Leka from Bridgeport town, American producer for Paul Mauriat, gave him his own 2 original songs and also helped to find three more perfect tunes for the album, — two of them were romantic and very talented pieces by Gloria Sklerov — «Gone Is Love» and «Home Again». She is very proud of both of these works and gladly told the story of their creation for Paul Mauriat’s LP.

Фан-клуб: Уважаемая Глория! Не могли бы вы рассказать чем для Вас стали записи Полем Мориа двух ваших сочинений?
PM fan club: Dear Gloria! Could you tell us your feelings when two of your works were recorded by Paul Mauriat?
Глория Склеров: Так как записи с Полем Мориа были моими первыми, я очень хорошо помню как все происходило. Как начинающий композитор я была в восторге от двух мелодий, записанных Полем Мориа в 1970 году. Это настолько меня разволновало, что я была уверена в том, что никогда этого не забуду!
Gloria Sklerov: Since my records with Paul Mauriat were my first records, I remember very well how it all happened. I was thrilled as a beginning songwriter to have two of my songs recorded by Paul Mauriat in 1970. I was so thrilled that I’m sure I never will forget!

Фан-клуб: Вы знаете, альбом «Gone Is Love» был также выпущен в Великобритании, Австралии,… и СССР. CD последовал 42 года спустя, и доступен по всему миру в настоящее время …
PM fan club: You know, album «Gone Is Love” was also released in UK, Australia,.. and in USSR. CD happened 42 years later and is available worldwide now…
Глория Склеров: Это замечательно — знать, что запись все еще жива и переиздана во всех этих странах. Хотя это было много лет назад, я до сих пор помню волнение и удовольствие, испытанное, когда я узнала о пластинках, а затем фактически услышала их. Они были так прекрасны.
Gloria Sklerov: It’s wonderful to know that the record is still alive and being re-released in all those countries. Although it is now many years ago I can still remember the excitement and pleasure I felt when I heard about the records and then actually heard them because they were so beautiful.

PM fan club: When did you first learn about his French orchestra? Did you ever met Paul himself?
Глория Склеров: О Поле Мориа я знала, потому у него был большой хит здесь — «Love Is Blue». Запись была очень популярна и даже выпускались вокальные версии с других артистов. Я никогда не встречала Поля и на самом деле не было никакого контакта с ним вообще. Так происходит со многими записями зарубежных артистов.
Gloria Sklerov: I had known about Paul Mauriat because he had a very bit hit here — «Love is Blue». It was a very popular record and was even released with a vocal by another artist. I have never met Paul and actually had no contact with him at all which is what happens with many records by foreign artists.

PM fan club: Has Paul Leka found you by chance?
Глория Склеров: Сначала я познакомилась с Джо Ридом, примерно в то же время. Он был начинающий автор, друг детства Пола Лека. Мы были в Лос-Анджелесе. Пол был в Нью-Йорке и стал успешным рекорд-продюсером. Джо не сочинял музыку. Я обычно писала тексты с ним. Пол спросил Джо, знает ли он каких-нибудь авторов, чьи мелодии Мориа мог бы запись. Так Джо со мной написал песню «Home Again». Я помню первый куплет:
Gloria Sklerov: At first I met Joe Reed around the same time. He was an aspiring writer who was a childhood friend of Paul Leka. We were in Los Angeles. Paul was in NY and had become a successful record producer. Joe did not write music. I used to write the lyrics with him. Paul had asked Joe if he knew of any writers who had the kind of melodies that Mauriat would possibly record. Joe and I had written «Home Again» together. I do remember the first verse:

I’m leaving alone to go back home again
On my own again

PM fan club: It is surprise! So, Joe Reed was not a co-author of «Gone is Love».
Глория Склеров: Пол Лека попросил меня включить Джо Рида в качестве автора слов песни даже если он не написал ничего на мелодию, поскольку я согласилась, что напишу текст вместе с Джо на тот случай, если какой-нибудь вокалист захочет записать песню. Но этого не произошло. Так Джо Рид стал автором песни «Любовь ушла», хотя на самом деле ничего к ней не написал. Я была молода и наивна тогда, и так взволнована фактом записи, что согласилась на все, что мне предложили, и Джо был не против. В итоге Пол Лека стал издателем песни.
Gloria Sklerov: Paul Leka asked me to include Joe Reed as a writer on the song, even though he didn’t write any of the melody at all, because I agreed that I would write the lyric with Joe in case a vocalist would record it. That never happened. So Joe Reed is a writer on the song «Gone is Love» even though he really didn’t write anything. I was young and naive at the time and was so excited about the record that I agreed to everything they wanted and Joe had set it up for me. Paul Leka ended up owning the publishing.

PM fan club: Other interesting moment: fans always think that tracks are placed on an album in order in which they were composed. It seems logical! How did Paul received your works?
Глория Склеров: Пол Лека остановился в Лос-Анджелесе для продюсирования группы по дороге во Францию, где спустя неделю должен был продюсировать Поля Мориа. Джо договорился о том, чтобы я пришла в студию, где в это время работал Пол и сыграла некоторые знакомые ему мелодии, чтобы увидеть, если он думал, что они те, что он подыскивал определить, что они ему подходят. Я ожидала всю ночь, чтобы наконец сыграть для него мелодии на фортепиано. Он тут же попросил меня записать их на пленку, а несколько часов спустя он покинул Лос-Анджелес, чтобы ехать во Францию. Два дня спустя Пола Лека позвонил мне из Парижа, он сказал, что они записали две песни, и что «Любовь ушла» станет заглавной мелодией альбома и первым синглом. Я была больше чем в восторге!
Gloria Sklerov: Paul Leka was stopping in Los Angeles to produce a group on his way to France later in the week to produce Paul Mauriat. Joe arranged for me to come to the studio where Paul was working to play some of the melodies he knew I had to see if he thought they would be what he was looking for. I waited the whole night to finally play the melodies for him on the piano. He asked me to record a tape while I was there and a few hours later he left from LA to go to France. Two days later I got a call from Paul Leka from Paris telling me that they were recording the two songs and that «Gone is Love» would be the title song of the album and the first single. I was beyond thrilled!

Фан-клуб: Печально … Но музыка все еще жива. Что касается мелодии «Любовь ушла», она стала одной из классических тем в российском сериале «КАРПОВ» (сезоны 2012, 2013, 2014).
PM fan club: It’s sad… But the music is still alive. As for «Gone is Love», this melody became one of classical themes for Russian TV series «KARPOV» (seasons 2012, 2013, 2014).
Глория Склеров: Как прекрасно узнать, обо всем этом! Это замечательно знать, что музыка все еще жива после всех этих лет, но не знать, что она была использована для телевидения, и мы ничего об этом не знали, — это так расстраивает. Это всегда приятно узнать, что ваша музыка используется — даже если вам не платят!
Gloria Sklerov: How wonderful to know about all of this! It feels great to know that the music is still alive after all these years but knowing that it was used for TV and we knew nothing about it is frustrating. It’s always gratifying to know your music is used — even if you don’t get paid!

Культурная жизнь Звездного городка, что рядом с Москвой была буквально переполнена звуками любимых мелодий. Здесь в Доме космонавтов 4 апреля прошел концерт, который многие считают важным культурным событием не только местного, но и даже планетарного значения.
Cultural life in Star City, near Moscow was literally overcrowded with the sounds of the favorite tunes. Here in the Palace of cosmonauts on April 4 held a concert which many people consider the important cultural event not a local, but global importance.

Этот концерт был приурочен сразу к двум юбилеям – 90 лет со дня рождения выдающегося французского аранжировщика, дирижера композитора Поля Мориа (1925-2006) и 50 лет с основания им своего знаменитого гранд-оркестра. В течение 4 часов на легендарной сцене играли, пели и танцевали 26 исполнителей и коллективов из Москвы, центрального региона России, Италии и даже из далекой Японии. Со сцены много было сказано и о самом маэстро Поле Мориа, в частности о его контакте с российскими космонавтами в последние годы жизни. Дважды герой Советского Союза летчик-космонавт СССР Алексей Леонов поведал залу собственную историю любви к музыке Поля Мориа.
This concert was timed to two anniversaries — 90 years since the birth of the outstanding French arranger, conductor, composer Paul Mauriat (1925-2006) and 50 years since the founding of his famous grand orchestra. Within 4 hours 26 artists and ensembles from Moscow and central region of Russia and even from Italy and faraway Japan playing, singing and dancing on the legendary stage. Much words has been said about maestro Paul Mauriat, in particular, about his contact with the Russian cosmonauts in late years of his life. Double Hero of the Soviet Union, the cosmonaut Alexey Leonov said the audience own story of love to Paul Mauriat’s music.

В уютном фойе Дома космонавтов была устроена фотовыставка Сергея Смирнова «Поль Мориа в Москве» (1978), а выставочном зале здания украсили 50 редких фотоснимков первого космонавта планеты Юрия Гагарина, сделанных также Сергеем Смирновым в 1961 – 1965 годах.

Член клуба Владимир Котлов принес свою коллекцию виниловых дисков, которую с интересом рассматривали все присутствующие. Большой интерес вызвало и специальное предложение нашего фан-клуба. Мало кто из зрителей ушел из концертного зала без сувениров — музыкального компакт-диска и программки.
At cozy foyer of Palace of cosmonauts was organized the photo exhibition by photographer Sergey Smirnov «Paul Mauriat in Moscow» (1978), and the hall of the building was decorated with 50 rare photos of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin 1961 – 1965 also taken by Sergey Smirnov.
Club member Vladimir Kotlov brought huge collection of vinyl records, which with interest looked all guests. Great interest was aroused and a special offer from our fan club. Few people in the audience left the concert hall without souvenirs — Paul Mauriat CD and a concert programme.

The head of the Star City Hero of Russia cosmonaut Valery Tokarev expressed his special thanks to artistic director Lyudmila Kotlova for the excellent organization of the concert. On March 4, 2015 — the birthday of the distinguished maestro Paul Mauriat — we summed up the results of the Paul Mauriat festival, which started in May 2014.

Почти целый год энтузиасты со всего света присылали на фестиваль свои видео-выступления. Всего было размещено 21 ролик, из них 18 инструментальных пьес и 3 песни. Официальный российский фан-клуб Поля Мориа благодарит всех вас за участие и вашу любовь к Полю Мориа.
For almost a year enthusiasts from all over the world were sending videos of their performances to the Festival committee. On the site of the Festival 21 video clips were placed, including 18 instrumental pieces and 3 vocal ones. Official Russian Paul Mauriat Fan-Club thanks all the participants for their love and sympathy to Paul Mauriat.

Председателем жюри фестиваля Поля Мориа является композитор Александр Гольдштейн (США), который известен как музыкальный оформитель популярного мультсериала «Ну, погоди!». Также с его именем связано начало популярности записей Оркестра Поля Мориа в СССР (телевизионная заставка передачи «В мире животных») и в спорте — фигурное катание, гимнастика и синхронное плавание. В настоящее время он возглавляет собственную продюсерскую компанию «ABG World, Video & Audio Production».
Jury chairman of Paul Mauriat festival is the composer Alexander Goldstein (USA), who is known as a sound-designer of the popular animated series «Well, Just You Wait!». Also his name is associated with the growing popularity of the recordings by Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra in the USSR (TV-jingle for «World of animals») and in sport — the figure skating, gymnastics and synchronized swimming. Currently he runs his own production company «ABG World, Video & Audio Production».
